Cal Hewitt

I am Cal Hewitt, the founder of DreamTold. I am not a psychologist or a sleep scientist by training. I am a researcher who spent decades chasing questions that would not let go, and DreamTold grew straight out of one of them.

01How DreamTold started

My sleep has been a fight for more than forty years. It started when I was a teenager, and even now I could not tell you what first set it off. On top of the insomnia came the usual suspects: bad food choices, late nights working, almost no balance between work and the rest of my life, and the ordinary stress that piles up on top of all of it. It wore on me, and I knew something had to change.

So I did what I always do when something is wrong. I started studying it. I read everything I could find about how to sleep better and, just as important, how to make the sleep I was already getting actually count for something.

02From better sleep to dreams

That research pulled me toward lucid dreaming and the question of how to make my hours of sleep more effective. The deeper I went, the more the dreams themselves started to matter, not just the rest around them.

From there I branched out into other kinds of dreams and how they shape, and are shaped by, the way we sleep. I started keeping a dream journal, and the more I wrote down, the more I wanted to understand. Dreams stopped being background noise. DreamTold became the natural result of all of it.

03What I bring to it

I will be straight with you. I do not have a degree in the inner workings of the mind. What I have is more than thirty years of experience as a researcher and a habit of writing about what I learn so other people can actually use it.

That is the whole engine behind this site. I read the science, I read the traditions, I pay attention to my own dreams, and I write it all down in plain language. No jargon for its own sake, and no pretending to be something I am not.

04How I read a dream, and what I hope you take away

When I write about a dream, I try to give you both sides honestly: what sleep research and psychology actually say, and what cultural and spiritual traditions have long believed. I do not dress guesswork up as certainty, and I do not tell you what to think. Where the evidence is solid I say so, and where it is mixed or a symbol means different things to different people, I say that too.

What I want for you is simple. An answer to the question that has been nagging you since you woke up, some insight into the way you dream and the way you think, and a path forward: a way to keep noticing your dreams, make sense of them, and grow from what they show you. That is all I ever wanted from this.

05Connect with DreamTold

DreamTold has been running since 2023, and for now I am the one writing it. If you have a question, a dream the site does not cover yet, or something you want to share, send me a message through the contact page. You can also find DreamTold on Facebook and YouTube; those pages have been quiet since 2023, but we will be more active there as the site grows.
